Into The Mouth Of The Wolf
Into The Mouth Of The Wolf, palette knife oil on canvas, 76 x 153cm
Cave or the jaws of a wolf? I sat sheltered from the rain to view this mega Hawkesbury River view captured in the moment and then painting in my studio in oil with palette knife, titled, ‘Into The Mouth Of The Wolf.
In Italian Opera “into the mouth of the wolf”, is a good luck wish given to performers for opening night. “in bocca al lupo” / “in bocca”. I tip my hat to my other life in Opera.
My landscapes are composed to lead the eye through chaos towards space and calm. Painted to put the viewer under and amongst tree limbs and leaves shading the viewer and framing the space beyond
I paint ‘alla prima’ which means ‘at first attempt’ my paintings are usually completed within one session.
